The Albion River Bridge, located on SR 1, approximately 15 miles south of Fort Bragg, California, has served the North Coast’s transportation needs since 1944. The bridge is in poor and deteriorating condition, has a low load rating, and is not an appropriate design for the harsh marine environment in which it is located. The bridge has multiple functional, safety, and structural deficiencies and is proposed for replacement.
Caltrans is considering three build alternatives and a no-build alternative in the Draft EIR/EIS. A preferred alternative for the proposed project will not be identified until after the Draft EIR/EIS has been circulated and public and agency comments have been considered.

Three build alternatives with arch and non-arch design options are being considered
Caltrans uses the Construction Manager General Contractor (CM/GC) Design and Construction Method. This method involves Granite Construction early in the design process to incorporate the contractor’s perspective in the project planning process. This method provides more innovation, efficiency, and savings opportunities than traditional project delivery methods.
